AgriSMART SA has a combined 140 years of fruit-centric experience in entomology, horticulture, plant pathology, plant physiology and – most importantly – farming. AgriSMART SA was established after the South African fruit and nut export markets, predominantly the European Union, increasingly started demanding less pesticide use and greater adoption of biological pest and disease management products.
These markets insist on verifiable sustainability and carbon footprint data from its suppliers, and has become increasingly restrictive on conventional pesticide use. Recently-banned pesticides include several neonicotinoids, chlorothalonil, mancozeb and glyphosate because of their potential risk posed to both humans and insects.
Historically, South Africa has been a strategic high-value crop supplier to the EU, and continues to be so. The country boasts the highest export percentage of total production of any producing country in the world. The percentage of local produce exported include 84% of apples, 79% of citrus, 98% of macadamias, and 98% of table grapes.
AgriSMART SA procures plant nutrition and fertiliser enhancers, crop protection insecticides, fungicides and herbicides, formulates and develops the right product for an exact, tailor-made application, and registers novel agricultural nutrient enhancers, biologicals, bio-stimulants and crop protection agents.
